About Anis Alamgir: brief Resume/ CV


Anis Alamgir
Journalist

Mr. Anis Alamgir is a well-known media person in Bangladesh with his over decade- long career in print, radio and television.

Anis has covered a number of important international events, including Iraq war (2003), Afghan war (2001), US Presidential election 2004, and various issues of Indian subcontinent including historic India-Pakistan Summit in Agra.

For the most part among them his reporting assignment, Anis has reported on the war in Iraq. The assignment was for close to 2 months that included live dispatches and interviews from the battlefields. He had an added responsibility, being the only journalist from Bangladesh covering the daily progress of the war in trying circumstances.

In his national attainment, the special TV report, carried exclusive footage of the tragic killing of former Bangladesh President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members. Such footage of Bangabandhu was used for the first time after 32 years of that tragic killing in 1975.

Currently he is working for The Independent, as its Diplomatic Correspondent.

Previously, Anis worked as news head of RTV, where he also worked as an anchor of a business show ‘Trade Talk’. Occasionally he also hosted some other talk shows like ‘Road to Democracy’, ‘Zero Hour’ and ‘News CafĂ©’.

Anis also served as head of news of Boishakhi Television, where he also worked as an anchor with his prime time weeknight program ‘Exclusive Interview’. Ahead of head of news, he also served as Current Affairs Editor of that Station. Before his duties as an anchor, Anis was Special correspondent of Channel-i, reporting on the Diplomatic and Political issues.

With Channel-i, Anis had hosted a newspaper reports analysis show- ‘Songbadpotre Bangladesh’, interview based show ‘Channel-i Xclusive’, and ‘Ek Dui Teen,’ which looks behind the biggest stories of the Week.

Prior to joining the electronic media, Anis was a Diplomatic Correspondent for daily ‘Ajker Kagoj’, and served two-time as President of DCAB- Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh.

He was staff Correspondent for ‘The Morning Sun’ and Dainik Desh in Dhaka and Bangladesh Correspondent of The Nation, Pakistan.

Anis also worked for BBC Radio Bengali service and Radio DW of Germany on the Iraq war, Afghan war and various events including Pakistan General Elections (2002), SAARC and OIC Summits.

Anis received a Master's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A native of Chittagong, Bangladesh, Anis speaks fluent Bangla, English and the last remnants of broken Hindi & Urdu. Anis is married to Shahnaz Chowdhury, a school teacher and proud father of a son Alex and a daughter Santa Maria.
